Our Mission

The mission of the Belchertown Community Alliance is to enrich Belchertown, Ma through repurposing underutilized landscapes to provide accessible space for artistic, technical, and educational pursuits for everyone. As part of our mission, we are striving to reach those in our community most impacted by oppression and marginalization. We seek to acknowledge and preserve Belchertown's history through engaging in restorative justice practices and community inclusion. We hope to engage with our community in long-lasting and meaningful ways by facilitating the productive exchange of ideas and creating an atmosphere of compassion and acceptance.

The Belchertown Community Alliance Inc. (formerly Cultural Alliance) is a 501c3 that was formed in 2019 when a group of local artists, makers, educators, small business owners and community members realized Belchertown was lacking a key element for economic development and cultural growth: affordable commercial space, diversity of existing businesses, and a true Community Cultural Center. In addition, Belchertown High School’s Transitions Program, which supports students with disabilities, reports an alarming lack of culturally based vocational opportunities in town. The BCA sees all of these challenges as opportunities for growth, community collaboration, and creative problem solving. With our eye on Berkshire Row, a group of former Belchertown State School buildings, the BCA is moving forward with capital development to redevelop these underutilized spaces to be the community cultural spaces, affordable commercial space, and vocational opportunities Belchertown needs.

In January of 2021 the BCA board voted to change the organizations name to the Belchertown Community Alliance Inc. This change is a direct reflection of how the BCA has grown and developed during their first year active within the Belchertown Community. The focus shifted from the singular goal of redeveloping vacant and underutilized spaces to acting as a catalyst to connect local community organizations all focused on the overarching goal of preserving Belchertown's history while providing space for artistic, technical, and educational pursuits through facilitating the productive exchange of ideas and creating an atmosphere of compassion and acceptance.

As we are working towards the end goal of creating a Community Cultural Center we are actively repurposing underutilized landscapes through cultural activities to include art installations, educational programming, culturally focused events, and so much more!
